Genevieve Sly Crane, Advisor

Genevieve Sly Crane is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts (B.A. English, 2010) and Stony Brook Southampton, (M.F.A. Creative Writing and Literature, 2013). Her first novel, Sorority, earned a Publisher's Weekly starred review and was featured in Kirkus Reviews, The Week, O Magazine, Elle, Marie Claire, Bustle, and Electric Literature. She is the recipient of the 2020 Whiting Award for fiction. Her 2017 story, "Endings, Bright and Ugly," was a finalist for the American Short(er) Fiction Prize. Her upcoming novel is due for publication with Simon and Schuster in 2023.

Jillian Carson

Jillian Carson, Executive Editor

Jillian is a senior Creative Writing and Literature major at Stony Brook University. She has been involved with Sandpiper Review since its inception and loves being part of this wonderful community of word people. She works at a public library in the circulation and children’s departments, and she can’t wait to pursue her Master’s degree in Library and Information Science after undergrad. Jillian writes children’s fiction and is currently working on a middle grade fantasy novel for her BFA thesis. 

Haley Sim

Haley Sim, Managing Editor

Haley Sim is a senior Creative Writing & Literature major from Queens, with a specialization in Scriptwriting and a minor in Television Writing. She has been on the Sandpiper Review team from its very first issue, previously as a reader and then as an assistant Nonfiction Editor. Currently, she's working on her thesis, a half-hour comedy pilot script, and probably recovering from knitting-related tendonitis.

Yunxin Lee, Art Director

Yunxin Lee is a senior of the Creative Writing major at Stony Brook University. They write fiction, and both draw and write their own comics. When they're not writing or drawing, they enjoy playing video games and watching movies. 

 

Chloe Lee is a fourth year biology major. They specialize in ecology and hope to work in conservation or research one day!

Aman Rahman, Poetry Editor

Aman Rahman is a Health Sciences and English major at Stony Brook University. His work has been published in Narrative, Consequence, the anthology, "Dear Human at the Edge of Time," and is forthcoming in The Margins. He is interested in the intersections of health, language, and literature. He has previously worked for the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and currently tutors at Stony Brook's Writing Center. 

Eva Genovese, Associate Poetry Editor

Eva Genovese is a double major in creative writing and marketing looking for a future in the publishing industry. When she’s not reading, she’s finding ways to get herself outside and away from the comforts of her bed. Poetry is so beautiful, and as a chronic over analyzer, her way of close reading works best for the kinds of works where every word and line is intentional. She can't wait to read your work!

Sidney Padmanaban, Associate Poetry Editor

Sidney is a sophomore at Stony Brook University double majoring in Physics and Creative Writing and minoring in Astronomy. When she's not spending money on CDs and coffee, she likes watching Taskmaster, attempting to play the piano, and forcing everyone around her to listen to everything Ryan Ross has ever put out.

Shreya is currently a second year biology major and creative writing minor. She is super excited to read all of the submissions! In her free time, she loves to hike, cook, and read.

Kiara D. Ramirez Burgos is from Puerto Rico and it is her second year in Stony Brook. She’s majoring in Creative Writing and minoring in Women's and Gender Studies and Journalism. She loves writing poetry herself and also writes fiction, mainly horror stories and thriller.

Adanna Rivera, Fiction Editor

Adanna is a junior at Stony Brook University majoring in Creative Writing & Literature. She is extremely passionate about books in all aspects including reading, writing, and editing. When she’s not typing away at her keyboard, you can find her crocheting cute accessories she saw on Instagram while catching up on her favorite shows. She’s been published in Perspectives Literary Magazine and hopes to work in publishing someday or finally fulfill the pipe dream of being a full-time author.

Julianna Kasper, Associate Fiction Editor

Julianna Kasper is a senior pursuing a BFA in Creative Writing and Literature. She is a writer of short fiction, and an aspiring novelist. In her free time, she can be found at a concert, watching reality TV, or reading a Sally Rooney novel.

Matthew Lundy, Associate Fiction Editor

Matt is a junior Creative Writing major at Stony Brook University. His psych-horror story “Mausoleum” was performed as part of the Spring 2023 Undergraduate Showcase.  While at SBU, he’s been working on his debut romantic thriller novel, Deep Blue.  When he’s not writing, he’s probably feeding his addiction to sappy romance manga, or listening to music through one of his beloved headphones.

Santhosh is a freshman computer science major at SBU. He’s been creating stories since childhood, though it was mostly daydreams and fibs about where the last cookie went. In high school, he found that writing was a great medium to share his stories with the world. And as they say, the rest is history.

Sushree Mathema, Nonfiction Editor

Sushree is a senior Health Science and Creative Writing double major. Though usually a non-fiction writer, she has grown into flash/short fiction, and more recently poetry. She is a henna artist in her free time, a New Yorker at heart, and hopes to one day not be allergic to cats.

Ivan is a senior creative writing major and journalism minor. He spends as much time writing short fiction as he does practicing the piano.

Emmersen King is a junior Creative Writing & Literature major. They enjoy fiction and creative nonfiction most, but hold a special place in their heart for poetry. They're a cat lover, a coffee enthusiast, and enjoy reading in their spare time while procrastinating their next story.

MEDIA

Victor Canela, Social Media Manager

Victor is a junior Creative Writing major at SBU. He is a fiction writer who also works within esports and is currently the manager for a few professional teams (nationally and internationally), as well as the social media manager for Divinity Esports. He’s using these skills to break into the gaming industry allowing him to become a Narrative Designer.

SB Young, Website Manager

SB Young is a third year Creative Writing undergrad at SUNY Stony Brook. He is primarily a poet and mixed media artist, but also dabbles in nonfiction and performance arts. It has been featured in Braided Way Magazine and is currently working on too many projects to juggle. He loves cats and maps and scribbles poetry on napkins when no one is looking.
